Bee-day Party

Fun ideas for a simple but cute birthday party on a budget!

See below for images and links for a complete list of items for this simple but adorable bee-themed birthday party for my 1-year-old daughter.

Cups, Plates, Napkins, Silverware came in a package together (serves 24) - link from Amazon

Tablecloth - link from Hobby Lobby

I designed the invitations myself and just sent them out via text to avoid printing and postage costs

  • Honeycomb wall decor - construction paper from Hobby Lobby that I used my Brother Scan-n-Cut to cut out the pattern quickly and just taped them to the wall with good 'ol scotch tape

  • Sweet as can bee chalkboard - again, construction paper cut out from my Scan-n-cut and taped to a chalkboard I had around the house

  • Honeycomb shelves - Decor from my daughters room, reused as party decorations for the day. Super simple to make and I will be doing a post on a tutorial for these shelves and will link when I do so!

  • Flowers - I purchased 3 sunflowers, 2 stems of babys breath, and a bunch of eucalyptus (all forms) and just did a few arrangements myself in these mason jars from Amazon

Cake and Cookies

These were my "splurge" items and usually are when throwing a party, because honestly look at them- they are too cute not to! I have a great, local lady who takes my Pinterest picture inspiration and comes up with the BEST cookie and cake ideas for me!

Instead of purchasing "bee on a stick" decorations, I just purchased these stickers at Hobby Lobby and stuck them on a toothpick for the same effect

Rice Krispie Treats

5 tbsp butter

6 cups mini marshmallows

6 cups rice krispy cereal

2 oz white chocolate

Melt the butter in a saucepan on the stove

Add in marshmallow and stir until marshmallows are melted in with the butter

Remove from heat and add rice krispy cereal

Press firmly into a greased 9x13 in baking pan and let set/harden

Melt white chocolate and add food coloring of your choice (my yellow did not turn out as "yellow" as I was hoping it to be) and drizzle over top. Add sprinkles of your choice before the chocolate hardens - the yellow are leftover from Easter and black I got here.

The next morning I cut them out using this cookie cutter to match my theme.

Fruit Salad

For my fruit salad, to stick with my theme, I just used cut up pineapple and grapes, I added in whatever blueberries I had left over from my french toast casserole I made

Highchair decor

I planned on making my own with a bee-theme but totally forgot about this detail until I was about out of time so I just used

This eucalyptus garland from Hobby Lobby - link here

and these metal signs from Hobby Lobby

The signs were on sale and I used the 40% off coupon for the garland

The party was a great day with family, and the realization that a year flies by before you can blink. #bittersweet
